Mercedes Barajas

Bilingual Housing Specialist

Mercedes Barajas has been with Lakeside Community Development Corporation since 2012.  As a bilingual Housing Specialist, she counsels clients seeking foreclosure prevention and first time home ownership assistance. Since joining Lakeside, Mercedes has completed numerous NeighborWorks workshops in foreclosure, home ownership and other topics.

Prior to coming to Lakeside, Mercedes worked for almost three years with a Chicago based Spanish language school  where she provided customer service to students and clients seeking translation services .  Mercedes has worked as a small business loan processor in Chicago.  Her knowledge and understanding of the banking world and her strong client skills make her an excellent counselor.

Mercedes received a degree in broadcast communication in her native Zacatecas, Mexico, and before arriving in the United States, she spent several years as a print journalist. Her experience in communication and journalism has given Mercedes a unique skill set which allows her to communicate in both a professional and warm style.


Temo Lares

Housing Specialist

Temo Lares is a Housing Specialist with Lakeside Community Development Corporation and joined Lakeside in July of 2013.  In his role, Temo assists clients with the request and submission of home loan modifications while also providing education and technical assistance services to condominium owners and boards.
Before working at Lakeside, Temo spent 2 years with a large housing counseling agency in Chicago which focuses on the Latino Community.  Temo’s diverse experience also includes work as a Loan Officer with a private home mortgage company as well as time teaching English as a Second Language at the University of Illinois at Chicago with AmeriCorps in a civic outreach program.  

Temo grew up in the Pilsen Neighborhood.  For Temo it is very important to stay involved in the service of Latinos and all communities.  He is interested in advocacy for Latinos and the issues that affect Latinos, and is passionate about working to address the challenges and opportunities his work presents.
