Dear Abby? How about Dear Bibian?
Bibian Guevara wears many hats, including serving as Lakeside's Housing Program Manager and Rental Housing Advocate. She has also been an immigrant rights advocate and TV producer. Now, she can add free-lance journalist to her list of roles, thanks to El Hispano News.
El Hispano News is a free newspaper offered in targeted communities in the Chicago region and geared towards the Hispanic community. Published in Spanish once per month, the Rogers Park version of El Hispano reaches 5,000 readers across the Far North Side. Bibian has been providing practical guidance in a monthly housing advice column. In the most recent article, published in December 2011, Bibian explains how renters can communicate with their landlords to ensure they have enough heat. You can read the full article, co-authored with Lakeside communications intern Lucy Figueroa, on our website (Spanish language PDF).
Bibian will be one of the presenters at an upcoming rental housing town hall on Thursday, February 16th, at 6:00 p.m., at Loyola University's Coffey Hall, located north and east of the Loyola University Mundelien Center on Loyola University's lakefront campus . The event is hosted by State Rep. Kelly Cassidy and State Sen. Heather Steans. Bibian will be presenting on "Happy Tenants – Happy Landlords." There will also be information on landlord tenant rights, fair housing, bed bugs, and more. Staff will also be available to meet 1x1 with any tenants needing assistance.
